"Looks like the moving trucks arrived." Miss Jones told her son. She was pleased with Lenore's babysitting the previous night, so she was happy that Lenore was settling so close to them.
Suddenly, Walter had an idea to get out of the house. To get away from his mother's controlling grasp.
"Mom, can I go help out?" He pleaded.
"Why would you want to do that son?"
"Because I want to help. I'm done my studies, I have a day off. Please mum!"
"Fine son. Just be back by four, and don't mess up your clothes. I've had had it constantly throwing clothes out that can't be washed!" Miss Jones was obviously disapproving of her son doing anything, he had failed her so many times. But being the fair person she thinks she is, she let him go.
---
"Knock, knock!" A voice echoed through the hallway. "Your door was open!"
Lenore chuckled. "I'm waiting for the renovating team." She said making her way towards the blonde man.
"My name is Casey. I am the renovating team."
"No way!" A wild smile appeared on her face. "One man team? Smexy!"
"I guess I can take you out tonight after work? Maybe during?" Casey Winked.
"Pushing your luck pal. You ain't taking me anywhere but across my new floor. Get to it!"
The front door slammed shut.
"Sorry." Walter apologized. "The door was open."
Lenore gestured for Casey to get a move on, as pleased as she was to see Walter she wondered why he came.
"Hey Walt." Lenore greeted him.
"You're to hot to be a teen's mama, who's the kid?" Lenore felt like slapping Casey square across the face, he was being a bit too cheeky for her taste. Then again I started it, she thought.
"Casey go do your work."
"I was wondering if you need any help L." L? Lenore didn't like her name, so a substitute was always good. L. She could get used to it!
"Well, come upstairs then, my walls aren't going to paint themselves!"
It was weird how happy Walter seemed about painting walls. Had he nothing else to do? Maybe it was just out of kindness, but it left Lenore wondering!
---
"Keep calm and love Llamas? Why would you put it up if the walls are not painted?". Walter joked eyeing the poster. Why were people so obsessed with llamas nowadays?
"Llamas are cool. Gotta respect that, and I don't know why I hung it up." Kid was attempting to be funny, good sign! Really good sign. L was pleased with herself, even if she didn't have much to do with it.
Walter stopped Lenore as she went to pick up the paints.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Shoot." Lenore frowned in confusion.
"There's a party in the park at 6. Could you take me and Sara there?"
"Why can't you go to the party yourself?" Lenore was puzzled.
"Because my mother won't let me, and you're babysitting my sister. Please could you take us? It's at the park I'll show you where!" Walter pleaded, he desperately wanted to go to the party despite hating parties.
"Why do you want to go?"
"There's this Singer I really like, he'll be performing tonight! Please?"
"But you're sneaking out either way, why not go yourself?"
"I'll feel better about myself if you go with me. Less regrets when I run for president!"
"Thanks. Put all the pressure on me, what if anyone there rats you out?"
"My mum is antisocial, nobody likes her!" Now he was desperate. Why would he say those things just to see a singer? This kid was a bigger mystery every minute that passed.
"Okay, I'll take you. But just in and out, I don't want a guilty conscience." She reasoned.
"You'd have a bigger guilty conscience if you wouldn't take me!"
After the weird conversation about who's guilt is bigger, the pair got hold of the brushes and started painting.
~3 and a half hours later~
Walter and Lenore sat exhausted on the couch admiring their work. They managed to paint the entire room. It cost them sweat, blood and slightly dirty clothes but they did it.
The now yellow room was soon to be turned into a bedroom. Lenore's bedroom. How she longed for her own room. She had shared room with several roommates once, her siblings and she even had to sleep in the living room to give her siblings a room. Now she was building her own bedroom.
"Get cleaned up in the bathroom Walt. I gotta check if the renovator is stealing my photos." She had been genuienly scared leaving the one man team alone, so she frantically checked his progress every half-hour. But apart from a few flirty remarks he behaved himself.
"That's good work Casey." It was nice to see some wood on the cold concrete floors, and Casey was a quick worker and happy to please. Funny what a person can do for the person they're attracted too.
"Does that mean we're going out tonight?" He asked cheekily.
"Is there no "don't date clients" policy in your company?" She sat down on the floor behind him.
"Haven't heard of one!"
"Well, I have to go to work now, you have my spare keys. So, lock up when you leave." Lenore instructed.
"Can I get a kiss for my good work?" Casey was pushing it, but she liked it. Lenore met many desperate men, but none seemed to genuinely care about her. But of course she couldn't look easy, let Casey beat around the bush for another while.
"No, you can get a kick up the arse though!" She joked.
"Fine by me!"
---
After cleaning up, Lenore headed to the Jones household with Walter. Miss Jones was set for work, with heavy cosmetics and perfume again. It begged the question where did she work? From past experiences L figured that sticking her nose into other people's business never worked out well.
"..And if Sara is being gassy, take her outside for a walk. The last time she farted on Walter his face went green!" Walter's face turned a deep hue of red as his mother told the babysitter embarrassing stories.
"Of course, and by the way, what is happening at the park today? Daniel said-" Miss Jones cut her off.
"There's some sort of Summerfest I think, nothing special. Just cheesy games and a terrible singer."
Walter boiled up inside. He didn't like it when his favourite singer was insulted and most importantly by his mother! She has some nerve!
Walter's mother was getting worse everyday, she's so judgemental. Mainly her judgement always lashed out on her son. She hated everything he liked, she felt she could make him "normal" using her motherly powers and authority. But Walter likes the person he is. Why does his mother not accept that?
After Miss Jones left for work, Sara wanted some attention. Lenore was happy to give it to her. As she pulled her out from the crib, instantly she received cuddles from the little three year old in her hands. A sweetheart, that's what she was, like her older brother.
L's motherly senses were tingling, or maybe it was just Sara's eating imitation. Anyhow, she placed Sara in her high chair and tried to remember what her siblings ate as babies.
The fridge contained some basic food. Vegetables, plenty of fruit. Lenore planned to make porridge with bananas. Babies love bananas?
Miss Jones cooker was amazing, it made cooking a pleasure! With a wooden spoon she stirred the ingredients and slowly sprinkled sugar into the mix. She had Sara's best interest in mind, babies loved sweet food right?
Sara was satisfied with the meal that was placed in front of her. She gave Lenore a toothy smile.
"Have ta insect furst!" Her baby talk was adorable, making Lenore wish she had a baby of her own. But it probably wouldn't happen in that lifetime. At least she could observe Sara grow, well until she is no longer needed that is!
With her little hands Sara sifted through the food, completely ignoring her spoon. It smells nice, It looks nice, does it taste nice? She wondered. Here goes!
She munched on the food, it appealed to her. Better than the porridge her mom made, but she would still prefer a jar of tomato baby food. Nevertheless, the keen eater devoured her food.
"Sara?" Lenore inquired, noticing that her bowl is missing. "Where is your bowl?"
"I dunnos, I maybe ates it." Sara giggled, proud of herself for hiding the bowl.
---
Despite how wrong it felt, Lenore went ahead with Walter to the park. Half of her mind was clouded with what-ifs, but on the other side, she was doing this boy a favour and he seemed keen to go see his singer, she didn't understand why.
Sara enjoyed herself too. She was pretty adventurous, a little Lara Croft in the making Walter joked.
They were a few steps away from the park, but Walter didn't wait up, he ran in. He ran as fast as his legs could carry because..
.. Austin Dellon was performing!
The blonde haired young man had a beautiful voice, angelic but fierce. His songs were very deep and meaningful, but one had to be extremely smart to be able to decipher the hidden meaning of the songs.
Walter was! And he loved Austin's performances, he was so hypnotic, different! Walter felt he could relate, maybe they both came from different worlds, but he felt they had some connection! Had they both shared some inner secrets? And was Austin sharing them through song with hidden messages that Walter could understand?
Lenore finally caught up, ready to tell Walter off but what she had a change of heart! As she took Sara out of her stroller, she couldn't help but notice.
Walter was googly eyed at the singer! He had that look in his eyes, not just any ordinary luck! He was in love!
Lenore began to understand it all, and left him to it. She swayed with Sara in her arms, slowly enjoying the music. Until she heard a familiar voice.
It was Daniel! .. Hugging a girl. Lenore's last slim hope of getting together with him vanished, but that small attraction to him she had last night lessened that morning anyway. But she still felt a small pang of jealousy, not knowing really why!
"Oh Sara!" A blonde woman approached, her dress was so tight it looked like it was going to pop. "How are you cutie! Oh, are you her new babysitter?"
So Miss Jones always had new babysitters take her baby out?
"Yes." L answered. "I'm Lenore, moved in here yesterday!"
"So I've heard, small town, word spreads quick you know? I'm Cassidy! Nice to meet you!"
"Likewise." Lenore was troubled to find conversation. The stress of minding the children got her 6th sense turned on.
"So, you taking care of the Jones kids?" Cassidy asked.
"Actually, theoretically just Sara-"
"Howdy." Another woman joined the discussion. Red headed and extremely similar to Cassidy.
"Lenore, this is my sister Alex. Alex, this is Lenore, Jones' new babysitter!"
"Mommy dearest has hired another babysitter? That woman is a bitch!"
Miss Jones? A bitch? "Why do you say that?" Lenore asked.
Alex began the history lesson "Well, apparently she had a rocky marriage, and about three years ago Mr.Jones just vanished. Nobody knows where, all his friends lost contact with him. His devious pig of a wife didn't even care, she took it out bad on Walter because he cared. He's been really distant since then."
Cassidy picked up from then. "He used to be such a nice boy, we used to always talk you know. Now he never leaves home. How did you get him out? Anyway, local legend says Miss Jones killed her husband, nobody can prove so but it's what majority of the town believes."
Lenore let that sink in for a moment. Walter told her lost of shading stories about his mother in the past day, but majority of the town hates her too? On one side, she felt incredibly sympathetic towards Walter and on another, she felt like she had stumbled onto great story material. This could be worth investigating!
"Excuse me girlies, planning to hit on Mr. Kurt there. You okay with that sis?"
"Knock yourself out. I've got bigger fish in mind!"
Lenore was puzzled yet again. "But isn't Daniel there with his girlfriend there?"
Cassidy let out a laugh. "That's his sister Lisa you dumbo!"
"Oh." Lenore recalled that he spoke to a Lisa on the phone the other day. She was sure that it was his girlfriend. Anyway, something seemed to push her away from Daniel Kurt, be it his sister or a flirting girl! They were simply not meant to be! She pondered, watching Daniel engage in some sweet talk with Alex.
"Like I said, I'm going for big fish." Cassidy announced.
"Is this some sort of sisterly game?" Lenore asked, adjusting her grasp on Sara.
"Yes, it was always who got the best guy you know? It stuck. Now I have to go to Mr. Handsome there. Bye hun!"
Walter stayed gazing at Austin, even after he finished his performance. He was so heavenly. Like a God. And like a he a God, Walter was only an unnoticeable peasant.
And when Cassidy went up to seduce Austin..
It tore Walter's little heart to pieces!
---
After finishing her babysitting shift, Lenore entered her house. It was unlocked! Casey must have forgotten! What a douche! But the new floor was impressive. The hall was completely covered in wood.
And her living room was fully carpeted. But her Kitchen was a completely different story!
Casey was asleep on her half tiled floor! His snoring indicated that he wasn't dead.
Lenore found it utterly hilarious! And cute! She took out her phone and turned the camera on.
"This is so going on Facebook!" She giggled.
